The power of the written word - Kate Hawkins
Kate is project manager, copywriter and editor who puts business and entrepreneurship, science, medicine, technology and engineering into everyday language. In 2008 she was among the first to achieve Australian Accredited Editor status with the Institute of Professional Editors, Inc.
In 2007, a Wiley–Blackwell blind review rated her language editing as "perfect".
She manages communications projects from concept through to writing, editing and production. She liaises with publishers, designers, authors, and technical specialists to express complex ideas in "plain English".
Kate's expertise is sought after here and overseas by government, major scientific publishing houses, universities, corporations and international organisations. Her expertise is further strengthened by over twenty years of experience in leadership, management and training roles in large corporations in Australia and overseas. In particular, she offers:
- Project management, business management, product/process development and research skills honed by government, technical and publishing sector experience and senior business development roles in the manufacturing sector and universities
- Copywriting and structural editing of industry reports, heads of agreement and contract terms, business cases and project reports; brochures, flyers and newspaper and newsletter articles; academic articles; manufacturing operating procedures; grant applications and training materials in business, science (physical and biomedical) and the visual arts
- Training and assessment in business communication, mathematics and science for higher education, workplaces and TAFE.
Kate holds a PhD in science, BSc (Hons), Cert IV in professional writing and editing, and AE status with the Institute of Professional Editors, Australia. She is completing a Diploma of Art in studio textiles.

The power of the spoken word - Celia Moriarty
Celia assists decision-makers reach clarity with speed. Twenty years experience across many industry sectors helps her to act as a filter, allowing clients to see what they need to do and say in order to persuade others to act. Inspiring communication that gets things done is Celia's core focus. She acts as a creative catalyst to senior executive groups who need to resolve an issue.
Celia's success is underpinned by her belief that people are resourceful, capable and ultimately want to be their best. She brings focus, passion, an external perspective and laughter to the work of facilitation and coaching. Moving forward requires constant connection in order to develop people's insight into what will help them and others get a better outcome. Learning and development can be challenging but if it means being who you want to be, it's worth it.
As a facilitator Celia creates an environment where "the issue" is the focus and input from all participants achieves stronger, realistic outcomes. As a coach she challenges and inspires behavioural change. Celia facilitates issue resolution and coaches executives in the skills required to persuade and influence. In these roles she has:
- Guided managers in finance to communicate change
- Facilitated public utilities to work collaboratively
- Coached CEOs to work more productively with boards
- Assisted business growth in traditional and non-traditional sales environments through face to face communication skills development
- Facilitated executive teams in finance, IT, professional services and not-for-profit organisations to clarify direction and plan strategy
- Helped executives to identify their strengths and how to leverage them.
As a regular speaker on power, influence and communication, Celia has been invited to present at many Australian universities and has worked with many national and global corporations to meet their business objectives.
Celia holds a Masters of Education specialising in organisational change. She has combined that expertise with a successful career in sales, marketing and new business development in the IT and finance industries.

Dave is a Christian web-entrepreneur. He runs a global Internet design and development agency, XHTMLized (xhtmlized.com), which has launched some of the worlds most trafficked websites, including FOX Broadcasting (fox.com) and Twitter (twitter.com). Dave measures the success of the company by how many families it puts meals on the table for.
Dave has strong creative vision for seeing how technology can enhance and improve the customer experience. His expertise lie in foreseeing and delivering how business can create opportunity in the modern era of facebook and iPhones.
From 1-person startup in 2005 - XHTMLized is now a team of over 30 web gurus spread across 17 different countries including the US, Canada, Europe and Asia. XHTMLized was the first agency of it's kind and paved the way for a whole new industry which now boasts hundreds of companies. The XHTMLized model is to hire the worlds best web specialists to deliver the worlds best web solutions. The power of the image - Charlotte Gelin
Charlotte specialises in publishing design, corporate identity, photography and digital image manipulation. She has nearly twenty years of industry experience in translating ideas and information into visual form for organisations in Australia and overseas.
Charlotte specialises in creating styles that lift an organisation's visual profile to the next level of professionalism, and whether the design is classic or contemporary, it is always eye-catching and engaging.
In designing a completely new brand or trademark, Charlotte carefully researches and consults closely with the client to tailor a comprehensive style for all visual media. She creates a unique look that communicates the intention and personality of the client.
When maintaining the integrity of an existing brand, she takes great care not to reinvent the wheel, and conforms to style guides to ensure continuity of brand recognition. She also updates logos and associated images for a fresh look while maintaining the identity.
Having previously held art director roles in a publishing house, a design firm and the City of Melbourne, Charlotte has extensive expertise in signage, books, brochures, annual reports, magazines, catalogues, posters, newsletters, stationery, advertising design, packaging, web design and presentations for conferences both for the private and public sectors.
Her photography expertise includes creating artist impressions for proposals and prospectus visuals, head-shots, workplace portraits, product shots, site photography, group shots and photo retouching. She has an excellent understanding of pre-press and print management, which enables smooth workflow from idea through to finished product to provide a complete design service.

The power of the creative word - Paul Kooperman
Paul is a prolific screenwriter, playwright and author. His feature script Wil was produced in 2006 and subsequently won Best Picture at the Independents Film Festival in Florida, Best Director at the Rhode International Film Festival and received Official Selection at the Hollywood Film Festival and the Cardiff Film Festival.
Paul was the sole in-house writer for Stacey Testro (Executive Producer of the SAW horror film series) in 2006, and is regularly commissioned to write and develop projects for stage and screen.
Paul has worked as a writer for Home and Away and in the writing departments for shows such as The Wedge, Wicked Science 2 and StreetSmartz in Perth.
Paul lectures in screenwriting at Open Channel and the JMC Academy in South Melbourne. He is about to have two books published on "how to write films" for Insight Publications.
In addition to screenwriting, Paul has been commissioned to undertake many other writing assignments including a set of three books entitled Plays Across the Curriculum by Macmillan Education (2008) and a musical, Woman on Top, for which he raised the finance for script development and a workshop production scheduled for 2009.
Paul is currently developing an innovative play for the Melbourne Writers Festival to be staged at Federation Square in two cities – Melbourne and Singapore – at the same time via two screens. He has recently been awarded a Copyright Agency Limited professional development grant to attend a writing festival in Singapore to develop this concept further.
In 2009 Paul is producing a feature film, Bucks Night, and a serial "soap" theatre show in the style of Neighbours, with a cliff-hanger every week so the audience keep coming back for more.
Paul is interested in working on market-driven projects and helping artists and writers make money from their work by developing their commercial sense and marketing skills. He is available to assess projects for film and television, as well as for mentoring, tutoring, collaboration and commissions.
